The general mood was one of satisfaction both during and at the end of the Oil&nonoil Sud event, held in Naples on 18th and 19th October. The exhibitors were pleased with the quality and quantity of visitors, who in turn were impressed with the variety of new ideas; meanwhile the speakers at the special meetings were rather taken by surprise by the size of the audiences they attracted. This was thus one of those occasions on which it really can be said that results exceeded expectations.
Some of the exhibitors reported having made sales deals during the fair and many remarked that they could have used more space. In short, this was certainly a great start for an event that set out to reawaken dormant potential that just need some direct stimulation. Its success is even more remarkable in view of the general difficulties currently afflicting the trade fair sector.
The 1300-plus operators who made their way around the stands in Hall 5 of the Mostra D'Oltremare exhibition centre came from all the central and southern regions of Italy, the majority coming from Campania.
The exhibiting companies (90 including those represented by local agents) and sector operators took advantage of this opportunity to meet, and everyone was a little surprised by the energy that both operators and companies demonstrated. Exhibitors from Campania such as Olimpia, Clean Car and Utec, which are mentioned just as examples, showed unexpectedly high levels of organisation and commercial expertise.
Meetings and seminars
On the Sunday morning, numerous station operators responded to the appeal of the sector associations which had organised two separate meetings on the Eni agreement. In one hall, the signatories of the agreement, Faib, Figisc and Eni, got together, and in another Fegica explained why it is opposed to the agreement.
On the Sunday afternoon and at the end of the event on the Monday, topics relating to the car wash sector were dealt with in a practical vein, the aim being to provide information on how to increase earnings and promote this activity more effectively.
Alternative fuels were the topic of two meetings devoted to LPG (among other things) and to the development of the natural gas retail network. In the latter meeting a proposal was outlined that aims to give the retail network of the Italian motorway system a decisive boost.
One meeting was of special interest to the local area, as it looked at fuel storage and handling at the Port of Naples.
Outlook
Oil&nonoil Sud is an innovative project that needs to exploit its specificity, even though it has already shown that it possesses distinct features that have the potential to make it a key sector event in central and southern Italy.
